In collaboration with the TESL program in the department of Modern Languages and the Intensive English Program in the Office of Global Engagement, volunteer TESL students
coordinate, design classes, and instruct students in a community-based ESL
program (CESL), a collaborative learning environment. The mission of the
community-based ESL program (CESL) is to provide adult family members of international
students, faculty, and scholars, affiliated with the University of
Mississippi, with quality English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. ESL classes address the practical language
needs of the learners, so that they can effectively communicate in English and
participate in the culture and customs of the United States. Furthermore, the CESL program celebrates the
cultural diversity of its students, thus fostering a support network for the local
international community.
